Who runs Five Mile

Five Mile is run by Aspect 23 Ltd, which is responsible for the personal information described here. You can contact us through aspect23.com.

The short version

We use Google Analytics cookies only if you say yes. We do not use advertising cookies. You do not need an account. We do not keep your location.

Your location or the place you search for

When you tap to use your location, your phone asks your permission first. Your position, or the postcode or town you type, is sent to our server to find nearby forecourts and is used for that search only. We do not store it or build any history of where you have been. If you save a Home and Work for the commute feature, they are kept only in your phone's own storage on this device, and are sent to our server just for the moment of a commute search, which does not keep them. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the search you asked for.

If you type a postcode or town, it is looked up with postcodes.io, a free open-data service, to turn it into map coordinates.

What is saved on your device

To save you setting things up each time, this site keeps a few settings in your browser's own storage (local storage). They stay on your device and are not sent to us, except for the fuel type and the place you search for, which go with each search. They are:

These are needed to give you the service you asked for, so the law does not require us to ask for your consent first. Your cookie choice is kept the same way. You can remove all of them at any time:

Google Analytics (only if you accept)

If you tap Accept, we use Google Analytics to understand how Five Mile is used: for example how many searches are made, which fuel types people look for, and whether people use Google Maps or Apple Maps for directions. Google Analytics estimates your approximate town or region from your internet connection; it never receives your exact position, postcode or the places you search for. We have turned off Google signals and advertising features.

Google Analytics sets these cookies on your device:

Google processes this data for us. It may be handled in the United States, under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time:

Other services the page uses

Fuel prices

Prices come from the UK government Fuel Finder service and contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we do not keep searches or accounts, we normally hold nothing that identifies you. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes

If we change how Five Mile uses your information, for example by adding accounts, we will update this page first and tell you in the app.
